Artist's Description
From Toompea Hill you can get a beautiful view Tallinn's Old Town which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the background you see St. Olav's church which once was the tallest building in the world with its 159 metres.
This church was built in the 12th century and was the centre for old Tallinn's Scandinavian community before Denmark conquered Tallinn in 1219. Its dedication relates to King Olav II of Norway.
The towers are part of the 4 m thick walls that surrounded the old medieval town. There used to be a curfew which meant that people who were outside the walls after 9 pm were thrown in jail.
